Young, Gifted and Black

See I’m African and I’m living in America

But I’ve never been to the land of Ebony

So the recollection of the memory

Man I just let it be

Because I’m more than just rhythm and I’m more than just art

Hattie was more than just mammy she won an Oscar for the part

Life for me son aint been no crystal stair

It’s been full of blood, sweat and even tears

Because it’s only ourselves we serve

Both mamma may have and papa may have

But God bless the child whose got his own

Who lives in the darkness and is gone with the wind

But is still waiting for the light to be shown

Until that day

Humbly we wait

But on this day we are proud to say that we are
