The Diary of a First Time Mom of Twins: Eyes Wide Shut

“I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask,
‘Mother, what was war?’” – Eve Merriam

When I was in high school I was an avid news watcher and reader. Now that I am a motherI have to admit that I absolutely hate watching the news because of the negativity and depression that riddles each segment. With everything going on in the world today, I often ask myself “how can I protect my children?” There are times that I wish there was some remote place I could just take them and we could live in peace and safety there forever.

It’s hard not to feel helpless sometimes. But in all the chaos I am reminded of words of wisdom my aunt shared with me when I first gave birth. Though they was just a few words, the impact still weighs heavily on me. She said “you can’t be afraid to live…”; This world can be a scary place but it can also be a beautiful one. As my sons grow into men, I have to keep the lines of communication open with them so that they know both but navigate life in the latter.
